The Beginner’s Guide
Understanding Korean Saju
New to Saju? In two minutes you'll understand your whole reading — your Day Master, your Four Pillars, and the five elements within you.
What is Saju?
Saju (사주, “four pillars”) is a 1,000-year-old Korean way of reading destiny from the exact moment you were born — the year, month, day and hour.
Where Western astrology reads the planets, Saju reads the energy of time itself, mapping five natural elements to reveal your character, love, work and fortune.
Your Day Master — this is you
The element of your birth day is your Day Master (일간) — the single element that means “me.”
It is the anchor of your whole chart: everything else is read by how it supports, drains or challenges this one element. It’s the big glowing character at the top of your reading.
The Five Elements (오행)
Everything in Saju is built from five elements that feed and check one another. Their balance in your chart is the heart of your reading:
Wood → Fire → Earth → Metal → Water → Wood — each element feeds the next, and each also keeps another in check. A good chart is about balance.
What your reading reveals
Free: your Four Pillars, your element balance, and your core personality.
Full reading: your love, career, wealth, the year ahead, and your lucky colours and directions — all drawn from your unique chart.
How is this different from my star sign?
Astrology gives everyone born in the same month one sun sign. Saju uses your exact date and hour to build a unique chart of five interacting energies.
If astrology tells you what the sky was doing, Saju tells you what you are made of — and how to work with it.
